Can You Wear Asos Curve As a U.S. 24/26? Yeppers!!!

Saturday, January 30, 2010

When I first heard about the new Asos Curve range I was a bit disappointed because I heard the pieces would only go up to a U.K. 26 the equivalent of a U.S. 22. For those of you who don’t know I am normally at U.S. 24/26(though I think I may be losing weight. Not on purpose.) But, after some good advice I decided to give the pieces a shot. Today I’m going to show you two dresses; my other two pieces won’t be here until Monday. I had a hard time deciding on which pictures to include so, I included most of them!!!! Please let me know ladies, which look was your favorite. Here's a preview of things to come. Ain't I cute Gurl? LOL!

Designer Interview Series: Nikki B of Decadent Designs

This is part 1 to the designer interview series. Because there a whole new crop of independent designers that are catering the young, hip, fat, fashionable women like me and you I thought it would be a good idea to give you guys a little insight into the person behind the clothes as well as some information on some new spring lines.
To start things off we have plus size clothing designer Nikki B of Decadent Designs. Nikki’s designs run the gamut, featuring everything from versatile, convertible jersey dresses to funky animal print headbands and clutches. Nikki’s designs look good on the conservative woman as well as the woman that likes to wear more daring fashions. Nikki debuts her spring line in March and I will be sure buy a piece or to and do a review. I heard on twitter that she was working on a convertible jumpsuit! Can we say excitement? I'm also looking forward to seeing Nikki's T-Shirt line and her awesome swim wear. Nikki has her own blog and YouTube channel so be sure to check those out.

Topic of Discussion: Shape Wear?

One of the most unfortunate things about being fat is that sometimes we are plagued with unwanted back or stomach bulges. I go back and fourth about the way I feel about shape wear. Of course I want to look smooth in my clothes but, another part of me just wants to let it all hang it out. Usually though, I try and go for the smooth route. For my back bulges I have acquired countless cardigans, jackets, and vest to cover my back but, for my stomach I really don’t have anything. I don’t really have any control top tights because I have yet to find a pair that I enjoy ( I plan get some from we love colors soon). So, for me apart from the pieces I have to cover my back I’m all natural.

Recently I received some interesting comments for wearing this dress with no shape wear.

Now ladies I’m leaving it to you. Do you have back or stomach bulges? Do you wear shape wear or do let it all hang out? Why or why not? What shape wear works best for you?

Topic of Discussion: Can Blogs Get Redundant ?

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Some of the questions I ask some of the participants of The Blog spotlight pertain to the amount of plus size fashion blogs that are being created. Generally the questions ask things like “with so many fat fashion blogs popping up why do you think people continue to come to your blog?” or “with so many fat fashion blogs popping up do you think it’s possible for everyone to have a unique perspective?”  So far the answers to these questions have been pretty neutral. I also have asked, “Do you think that because we are all fat we are obligated to help each other?” Those questions aren’t limited to just fat fashion blogs. The same questions can be applied to straight size fashion blogs or even music blogs.

My thoughts on the subject are as follows. This blog is a fairly new blog and is in fact one of those new blogs that just popped up out of no where. This blog has not been up and running for a very long time. I try to keep this blog as fresh as possible by offering great weekly features like the Blog Spotlight, the item of the week, the topic of discussion, shopaholic trends and soon the 4 part designer interview series. I think that those things keep people coming back and make this blog unique.  I usual don’t post editorials and such because there are plenty of blogs that do that all ready. As far as other blogs are concerned I feel like there is bound to be some over lapping in stories so that certainly shouldn’t be an issue. A persons perspective on that story is what makes it unique.  So far I have come across mostly great blogs with very unique perspectives and women with great personal styles. There have been a few that are not my taste but, everything isn’t for everybody.

In addition I don’t feel obligated to help anyone for any specific reason and try not to make people feel like they should help me for any bias reason. I think anything of good quality with good content deserves shine. Over all though I am happy that there arw great fat fashion blogs helping and inspiring women like me everyday

So now I’m leaving it to you. Bloggers, what do you do to set your blog apart and keep and it fresh and relevant? Readers do you feel that fat fashion blogs are becoming redundant?  Do you have a response to any of the questions in the first paragraph? You can even comment on this blog. Do you like it? Why or why not?

Edited to say: I just wanted to say that I hope that everyone understands that this post is to promote discussion and not to offend anyone. I hope in this post it is clear that I love the fat fashion community and love to help and to be helped.

Here are links to the first four Topic of discussions incase you missed one

eShakti Clothing Review!

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

eShakti is a up and coming clothing company from India. The thing that makes eShakti worth mentioning is the endless options for customizing your clothing. You can chose from sizes 0 - 26W or you can customize any of the pieces to your exact measurements for a extra 15 dollars. Even if you do choose from a pre-cut size you can still customize your clothing by choosing the length of you sleeves and skirts. eShakti has a full array of clothing; there are pants, skirts, jackets, dresses, leggings, jewery, and accessories. While not all of the clothing is appropriate for a trendy 20 something, I think there is something for everybody.

Although eShakti is in India ready made items are available to ship immediately and customized items are available in about 3 days. Shipping is fast to, taking only about 5 or 6 days.

Pricing is good to. Even with the extra 15 dollars for custom pieces I did not see anything over 100 dollars. This is a great alternative for places like Etsy that can charge quite a bit from custom pieces.
Recently eShakti offered to send me a piece of clothing to try. I chose a brown, asymmetric jacket. This jacket is 100% wool on outside and the lining is a Nylon silk like fabric. Although when I ordered my jacket I ordered a standard 26W, eShakti still asked me for my bra size, and I opted to have the sleeves cut long because I find that when I buy jackets or coats they fit fine everywhere else but, the sleeves are too short.

I love this jacket. It fits me perfectly. I love the asymmetric look. There is full motorcycle jacket like detailing along the bottom of the jacket and the shoulders. The fabric is comfortable and the sleeves fit just right. This jacket can be worn with jeans and sneakers or you can dress it up. I’m wearing leggings and sneakers though. Hope you enjoy.

I would love to link you to the jacket but, I combed the site through and through and its not there. Sorry!

eShakti already has there spring clothing up so, check it out. Thanks again for the jacket! If you do decide to check it out enter code RBG5MAT for $20 off $30 . The code is not case sensitive and is valid through 01/31/2010.

Blog Spotlight - Ragini of Foray's in Fatshion

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Hello luvs. It's time for the 3rd installment of Blog Spotlight. For the new readers to this blog I started the blog spotlight because being a full time English student, managing this blog, and writing for a online magazine(not yet but soon) I can not give you all the “skinny” on fat fashion. There are many, many blogs out there, many of which that I read, that cover a lot of things that I do not. As oppose to just featuring bloggers on my blog roll I thought it would be a good thing to not only link you to the blog but give you a glimpse into the person behind the blog.

So meet Ragini the 24 year old, happily unemployed student behind the fat fashion blog Forays in Fatshion.

Topic of Discussion: High Heels

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

No matter how fashionable I have been over the years I have always figured out a way to skirt around wearing heels, I could make flats or boots work for any outfit but, recently I decided that with the things I planned  to get accomplished maybe the “adult” thing to do would be to wear heels. The first thing I did was search the internet to see how other plus size women felt about wearing high heeled shoes. Some of what I found truly shocked me but, some things didn’t.

Through visiting the forms, blogs, and websites I came to three conclusions

1.) Some larger dolls say that when they wear heels they feel bigger.
So  2.) Larger dolls say that with the extra weight they carry bearing down on their feet it’s impossible for them to walk in heels.
3.      3.) Some people don’t think fat women should wear heels at all. They say their feet are fat and unsightly.

That was almost enough to detour me from wearing heels but then I remembered all of the fat fashion bloggers I have seen wear killer heels and saw the light at the end of the tunnel. I certainly know how the women that I described earlier feel. I to use to feel bigger when I walked around in heels which is something no one likes. When you feel awkward you look awkward.  I also do feel like the extra weight I carry on my body does cause my feet to hurt faster in heels verses other shoes. However, even I don’t think that anybody should be restricted from wearing anything.  As I mentioned before plenty of fatshionistas wear heels and look fabulous doing so. So, even when I didn’t wear heels it certainly wasn’t because someone told me not to. That really shocked me. Of all the names I have been called in my life no body every told me I had fat feet before. Geez!

Then I took to twitter and got help from some of the other heel wearing fatshionistas out there regarding how to better deal with my heel wearing issues.

So, my first pair of heels to start getting me back in the grove were 2 ½ inches and a walked around in them fine. I went to a party and stood up nearly the whole night in them. My second pair were 4 inch booties. I got them home, slipped them on and I fell right over. To be honest my feet hurt badly. I think it was the high arch that being in the booties had created that hurt so much. But I’m still not giving up.

Here’s my plan of attack
1.) Gel inserts. In these booties my feet definitely need more cushion and comfort so, those are a good investment.
2.  2.) Start walking. Even if only a few steps at first! You gotta learn how to crawl first right?

The strangest thing is I can’t believe I even need a plan of attack. When I was in Grammar school (like 7th and 8th grade) I wore 3 inch heels like a pro. I helped my dad carry a computer up 3 flights of stairs in 3 inch denim and white strappy sandals. What happened to that?

So if the goal is to convince my mom I need these I have a long road ahead of me

So, this topic of discussion is pretty open.  Being fat women how do you feel about wearing heels? Can you relate to any of the 3 reasons I listed above regarding people not wearing heels? Do you wear heels? Why or Why not? Do you have any funny or interesting stories about you and a pair of high heels?  How did you learn to walk in high heels?  To be a fatshionista must you wear heels?

OOTD Friday, January 8, 2010

Hello you lovely ladies how are you? Better then me I hope. If you follow me on twitter then you that I have been very under the weather. In fact this is a OOTD from Friday and I have been trying all day to gather enough energy to type this. Post will be slow until I'm off the sick and shut in list.

For this OOTD I didn't really go any where special, I was just running errands and walking around the house in this. Lately I have been totally into head pieces, hand bands, and giant bows. When I got the head band I'm wearing here the sales women said she liked it but would only wear in on a special occasion. I told her I would wear it any day of the week. I think the head band brings a nice costume element to this outfit without taking it to far. Black dresses are a classic piece so I think when you wear one its good to play with things like texture. I love the ruffles on this dress and the way they juxtaposed with the feathers on the head band. I added the pink heart bag for a pop of color. I love to where bangles, who doesn't own some? But, here I went for a chunky sliver bracelet. The shoes where a challenge for me. They are 4 inch booties and I had never been in something so tall before. I alternated between those and a pair of flats. At the store I could walk across the room in them but on the carpet at home I fell right over. I need to do more practice.

Topic of Discussion: Plus Sizes confined to Only Dark Colors?

Monday, January 4, 2010

I remember as a child being told by my mother to only wear dark colors and to stay away from bright colors, bold prints and patterns. Now as an adult I love to stand out. Being fat already makes me stand out but, in addition I also enjoy bright colors, patterns, prints, and quirky accessories like huge scarfs and bows. But, that doesn’t sit well with everyone. Sometimes when I go out in public I’m stared at or laughed at. Even on this blog I have had people tell me that I’m to big for things like sequins.
I am often shocked that some people feel this way about plus size people in daring clothes. For years plus size clothing companies have only featured clothing in dark boring colors and now designers are slowly creeping up with daring options for plus sizes. But, even other plus size women like to criticize other plus size women in more daring clothing.
Even, Plus Size fashion icons that make best dressed list like, Beth Ditto, get criticized for having a daring personal style.

I have also had comments on the fit of my clothes. Lots of plus size clothes are long, baggy, and cover your arms. I like the exact opposite to that. Also, I love the body con fit. Clothes like that fit snug but your body is yours and if you don’t plan on changing it I say if you got it fault it.
'
Personally, I don’t let other peoples opinions dictate what I wear. I love to look at blogs for inspiration and get peoples feedback but, I would never change a outfit just because someone didn’t like it.
So, now I want your option. As a plus size women do you feel confined to only dark colors and baggy clothes?
Do you let other peoples comments determine what you wear or do you just wear what you want?
