Stealing Your Red Lips

Saturday, November 27, 2010

This is what I wore on Thanksgiving. The Blazer and the shoes have been mine since high school. I love the blazer, but in the 3 or 4 years that I've owned it I haven't worn it a lot. I always struggle to find a way to style it that doesn't look "Smart" or "Preppy". I've had this lace dress since the launch of Asos Curve. I haven't worn it a lot either because I didn't want it to look to "Girly" I finally brought both pieces together and I love the out come.

I have had so much trouble finding tights that fit me properly and don't break in the thigh after one wearing, so when Tights Please offered to send me these tights I hopped at chance to try them out. So far I have worn these 4 or 5 times and I have yet to experience any rips or runs in the tights. I like the weight of the material as well; they're thick enough for a Chicago winter for sure without being to thick. They don't have a lot of colors to choose from in the Cette Dublin Plus Size style that I was asked to review, but there are some purples and blues as well as basic colors. I asked for the black, the purple black, and the storm. The black is opaque and true to color, while I found that the purple black did have hints of purple and black the color is not the same deep purple shown on the swatch on the product page. I haven't received the storm yet, so I can't judge the color there. In terms of sizing according to the packaging these only are suppose to fit folks up to around 250 pounds, but I found that although I'm bigger then that they fit fine. I do wish that larger sizes were added to line though. Also, on the website the size guides only describes sizing using hip and height; I wish they added the weight chart on the back of the package as well.

Topic of Discussion: How Do You Look Unique?

Friday, November 19, 2010

Blogging is a great platform to allow people express themselves and inspire others, but things can seem a little crowded. There are only so many things, people, and clothing to discuss. As beautiful as everyone is sometimes it can be a little annoying to see other people wearing clothing that you own. Granted it's not nearly as bad as having it happen in public, but it's still a little off putting when you want to be unique. You can't really blame anyone in particular for this because while plus size options grow and expand everyday there are still fewer fashion forward plus size clothing options then there are straight size. If you talk in terms of main stream companies like Torrid, Lane Bryant, and Evans the numbers shrink, so that means a lot of the time we end up owning a lot of the same things.

I like looking unique and wearing clothing that I feel like really says me. Since I've started blogging the amount of shopping I do at main stream stores has decreased considerably. I have been doing more thrift store shopping now then ever before because not only is it a great way to find good clothes for cheap, but you likely won't see anyone else with them on. I also love shopping indie brands because this is a great way to support independent business and look unique. Trying things on at straight size stores and making them work can be a great way to find things you won't see a lot of plus size women wearing. I try not to buy the really popular items from main stream lines as well and when I do I try to style them in my own way thats not typical of how it would otherwise be wore.

So, what do you think? Do you care if someone wears the same thing as you? If you want to look unique how do you achieve that?

Burgers and Fries!

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

This is yesterday days outfit. I purchased this dress at the Torrid 50% off clearance sale. I was very surprised I wore this the day I received it; I usually buy things and have them sit for weeks or months before I figure out how to wear it and what to do with it. I actually wore this out to get hamburgers. I know this dress can be seen as more of a party dress, but I don't really believe that clothes are for certain occasions only. I literally will wear I party dress to the grocery store if I'm in the mood. I am loving lace and animal print together these days to. I don't know why.  Do you were clothing when it's traditionally not for the occasion?

Here are the highlights I spoke about in my last post. They are brown and red, but for some reason the red doesn't show super will on camera.

Oh, I love this photo. When my friend was taking the pictures he said, "You won a million dollars and it's tax free!" That was my reaction.

Mr. West?

Monday, November 8, 2010

The hair salon I go to had a customer appreciation party yesterday. I didn't think I would have nearly as much fun as I did. I thought it would be more like a get together with some food and a few bottles of wine, but there was a hair show, great food, music, dancing, and a open bar.

Dancing and having fun.

Let the drinking begin!

The shindig cracked and so did the edible arrangement..LOL

Get it Girl!

This is me dancing to "Big and Chunky". The song just isn't the same if you don't purse your lips and shimmy back and forth.

This is one of my favorite outfits. I saw a picture of Kanye West when I was ummm...looking for some pictures of him. I saved the photo because I loved the colors so much. I wanted to recreate it, but I didn't have the right pieces, but slowly but surely they came together in a organic way. I've had this Asos shirt for a few months and I recently ordered the trousers from Evans. Then yesterday I went to the Salvation Army and got this blazer. It was a suit, so it was $7.50. I didn't want to spend that much, but I loved the colors and button details so much that I put in my cart anyway. When I got to the register it turned out the suit was half off. Yay me!

I wore these pants in my last outfit; I love that they are a neutral that isn't black and take color so well.  I wish I got a shot of my shimmery pink backpack. Oh! I colored my hair. It now has red and light brown high lights. I'm going to take better pictures of it soon.

We were trying to get a picture me hitting my dougie(which it appears I can only do when I'm drunk) at the bus stop, but that didn't happen. This is me laughing in between shots.

This was yesterday's outfit.  I just wore it out to run errands. I love these Evans pants. I ordered them a few sizes to big so that they drape properly. I paired it with this ugly old lady type floral and lace cover up which I adore. It's a great layering piece, but I little dated to wear by it's self.

Lessons Learned and Favorites

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

I love when Amelia does this post on her blog. At the end of her post she sometimes asks people to share their favorites and lessons learned and rather then write a book in her comments I thought I would just do my own post. I hope she doesn't mind. Here goes nothing! `

Lessons Learned

1.) The best things in life are free. I can honestly say many of my favorite experiences in life have been free of charge. Making Buffalo Shrimp salad filled with every salad condiment that can fit in the bowl while watching Sunday night prime time television with my best friend. Or playing games and bouncing balls with Britney in Target. And finally, spending Halloween eating pizza, playing Wii games, watching Noah's Arc, and recanting our favorite moments in the what seems like a billion cycles of America's Next Top Mode with Jay and Nya.

2.) Everyone shows their true colors eventually. People abruptly attempt to change for the better for many reasons, sickness, guilt, longing and the list goes on, but unless the change comes from a genuine place folks will slowly start to revert back to their original most genuine self.

3.) The big picture sometimes out ranks the devils lurking in the details. I remember in "A Bronx Tale" when Calogero was chasing after a friend he didn't particularly care for for $20 he loaned him. Sonny told him that as long as he owed him the money he'd never see him again and if he wasn't a very good friend $20 was a small price to pay to be rid of him. Sometimes it's important to look at things the way Sonny did.

This week I realized maybe someone isn't being a very good friend to me and rather then get stressed out and hound them about why maybe I should just accept that they may not want to spend time with me any more.  If I don't hound them they won't feel obligated to attempt to see me or call me. Having had suffered in their past indiscretions is a small price to pay for the peace I'll gain not being stressed out about the details regarding the status of our friendship.

4.) Living life carefree and without a plan is easier said then done. Sometimes I let the future get the best of me.

5.) Validating yourself is the most important, but everybody needs at least one other person to remind them that they are special. Thanks Mom.

Favorites

1.) The Glee Cast Sweet Transvestite - I'm a little confused as to why it was decided that "Sweet transvestite from Transexual,Transylvania" would be changed to "Sweet transvestite from Sensational, Transylvania", but I love the soulful vocals.

2.) New Wii Games - Just Dance is so much fun. The dances are ridiculous, but the point is to give your all, make a fool of yourself and have fun. Plus it's a work out in disguise. DJ Hero was hard and DJ Hero 2 adds even more elements to make it even harder, but I love every second of it.

3.) Playing Dress Up - Sometimes when putting clothes away I just start trying out different looks and experimenting with my wardrobe. I feel like a six year old playing in a dress up chess filled with fairy tale costumes only the costumes in my chess help me give a glimpse of whats on the inside to people that can only see me from the outside.

4.) Alice Takes a Trip - Many of my old hair pieces don't work for my new hair do (I'm going to convert the pieces on bands to clips) and some of them are lost, so I took advantage of the Alice Takes a Trip Discount code from last week and purchased all of their bows. I love them! I wish their clothes came in plus size, so I can wear everything.

5.) Obsessed - I love this movie! The ridiculousness of the bad acting, horrid plot, and underdeveloped characters makes for a great laugh. After all there is a beauty in mistakes right?
Derrick: Sharon, where am I suppose to go?
Sharon: To hell, but until then I suggest the Four Seasons!
