Blog Spotlight: Franceta of Frantic Dreams

Monday, August 30, 2010

Hello luvs, can you believe it? It’s time for the 11th installment of the blog spotlight series. For the benefit of new readers to this blog new I will say I started the blog spotlight because being a full time English student, managing this blog, and writing for a online magazine I can not give you all the “skinny” on fat fashion. There are many, many blogs out there. Many of which that I read that cover a lot of things that I do not. As oppose to just featuring bloggers on my blog roll I thought it would be a good thing to not only link you to the blog but, give you a glimpse into the person behind the blog.

Allow me to introduce you to Franceta Johnson, the 18 year old high school student behind Frantic Dreams.

Franceta is one of my new favorite bloggers; I absolutely love her style and her creativity. She designs her own blog layouts and incorporates lots of DIY pieces into her wardrobe.  In regards to herself Franceta says, " I am a high school student who has spent her last year in high school struggling to figure out what to do with my life. Spending my whole life in Toronto, the decision to leave or not was a tough one but I am enthusiastic about my journey ahead."

My favorite quote from Franceta was, "I would love to be considered a member of both the fatshion and fashion blogging community one day, but I don’t think I am in any specific half of the Venn-diagram yet lol."

You'll have to click read more to see the rest!

Your blog is a fairly new one so, what made you decide to start it?
I have a sickness called sarcasm that causes me to be funny so I thought I would put it in a blog, It really is unfortunate! Lol no but in all seriousness, I started my blog as a personal outlet for my problems, aspirations and dreams. I had no clue that fashion blogs were so amazing until I went exploring on the net one day and I told myself that I needed to get in on this, and here I am!

Do you consider you blog at fatshion blog or a fashion blog? Do you think there is a difference? If so what is it?
I really don’t think there is a difference between the two. Fatshion blogging is just larger people who blog about fashion… our size should not separate us from regular fashion blogging. The confidence, poise and beauty of the blogger doesn’t change, just the size. The love for fashion and style really see’s no size at the end of the day.
I have been told many times that I do not look large enough to represent fatshion. I am an 18-20 dress size, a 22-24 pants and an L-XXL in shirts… If I cannot represent fatshion then I do not care to know who can! Aside from the opinions of some, I would love to be considered a member of both the fatshion and fashion blogging community one day, but I don’t think I am in any specific half of the Venn-diagram yet lol.

What other blogs inspire you and why?
A fair number of blogs inspire me, but the one that stands out would have to be Amelia’s Sound Bites. She is such an honest, funny, beautiful woman who writes from the heart, and I really do love and appreciate that. Her fashion also makes me smile because I find it very basic much like myself :) *Shameless comparison, sorry Amelia!*

Dulce Candy is also another blog that I find inspiring. That girl is fearless when it comes to ANY trend, she will try anything once. I would love to have that same mentality, to at least TRY anything once. What’s the worst that can happen? We are all going to be fashion fopas in 20 years anyways ahaha!

What place to do think blogs hold in the fashion industry as a whole?
In this era, they hold a HUGE place in the fashion industry. Blogs are the easiest way to access fashion as an everyday person. You don’t need to go scope the freshest trends, you can just enter a whole world of fashion blogs in a matter of minutes, verses magazines where you would have to buy a number of them for the variety of styles that blogs can present to you. It really is an amazing revolution when you think about it.

How do you describe your personal style?
Lazy but eccentric. I personally do not think I have amazing personal style. Everything I own is pretty plain but the few random pieces that I do have, no one else around me would wear, like a repulsive floral vest or a shredded tshirt. I feel the need to mention that I do not own anything that needs dry cleaning, I own barely anything needs to be ironed, and the less I have to do laundry, the better for everyone :)

When styling yourself and putting together different looks what are your biggest challenges?
I would have to say my shoes, hands down. I am already 6 foot five but I LOVE a good 5 inch heel! I wear a size 15 in a woman’s shoe, and up until a few years ago, I didn’t even know girls shoes were made in my size! Thank god for online cross dressing stores like allheelsformen.com and sites like barefoottess.com, they have really saved me in my addiction to heels! Not far behind my shoes would be my pants, with a 41+ inseam on a good day *sigh* that extra 3 inches of fabric does not come cheap! Jeans cost somewhere around $150 a pair.

Do you have any long term goals for your blog?
At the moment, no not really. I am still using it as a personal outlet and people seem to enjoy that. I don’t have any ambitious plans for it just yetbut I would like to start posting some of my designs and gain a few more followers in the process!

Would you like a career in fashion?
Do Louboutin’s have a red soul? YES! I love everything about fashion. ANY and I mean ANY job in fashion would be a happy one! My ultimate goal is to start my own line; hopefully I can find success in this wild dream of mine. I start my four year fashion design and merchandising course this coming January, and I have never been more excited to start school!

What sparked your love of fashion? Was fashion something you were always interesting in or is it a fairly new interest?
My aunt Jeannie sparked my love for fashion. She had a closet that would make you drop to your knees and weep from the bling burning you eyes! She was always considered the gypsy of the family because of her long strands of beads, her flowing scarves, and her colorful outfits from head to toe. She was and still is my idol, starting my accessories obsession at the age of 7 with one Christmas gift… A single strand of costume pearls.

Although I always loved clothing, I never really got into it until this last year of high school. I have always been a girl who loves her sports, basketball, football, volleyball, lacrosse, you name it, and I probably played it… trust me when I say I hold the battle scars to prove it! I was also a girl with a wardrobe that consisted of track pants and the hoodies to match, and then one day I woke up and figured hey, why not go out with a bang so that nobody could forget me, even if they tried!? The first few days it was a shock for my friends, but now I’m pretty much known as the sporty girl who can dress fairly well lol.

What do you want people to take from your blog? What message are you trying to send?
I never really thought about the message sent until I just read this question lol. I guess it would be that it is perfectly fine to be yourself x 1000. If a 6’5, 200 and something pound girl can be as outgoing as I am, just about anyone can show their true colors and enjoy a life of style without any seconds thoughts.

Finally, what you like about Fat Shopaholic and why did you agree to do this interview?
I adore happy people! Tiffany is a sincerely happy person. When I first came across her blog, I noticed that in EVERY picture she was smiling, joy pouring out of every pore. In this day and age, it is hard to come by pleasantly happy people, and when you do… you DON’T ignore them. Fat Shopaholic is a blog of a truly happy person living life, and is always more than a joy to read, not to mention the outfit posts that I enjoy and wait for *hint to post more outfits tiff!* ;) lol. I agreed to do this interview because I was truly honored that anyone, let alone a known and respected blogger wanted to interview me!
